For fun, I sent her this picture:

From this stemmed a teasing match about what other crazy shoes she could wear, from stripper heels to clown shoes. The conversation then turned to what crazy suit her husband should wear. And from that, we started talking about how she should wear her hair for the wedding...
That's when I suddenly remembered what my best friend's hair looked like for my first wedding. Poor Sarah. The paid hair stylist was only given the instruction to create up-do's for each of the ladies. I probably should have given a little more direction, because she sort of went a little nuts on Sarah's hair. By the time the hairstylist put the 3,000th bobby pin in Sarah's hair, it was nearly time for the ceremony.
Sarah definitely was a trooper, even though I'm guessing that she really didn't want to look like Little Bo Peep for my wedding.

Back then, I was probably too busy and nervous getting ready to marry a guy (that I would end up divorcing two years later, mind you) to really pay attention to Sarah or her hair. But studying this picture a little more now, I can clearly see something that I may have missed before:
Look at Sarah's smile. From her almost painful grin, she was most likely in the midst of devising my murderous death. Behind those icy blue eyes, I am sure that she is trying to decide whether to do it before or after the ceremony... and whether she could use a pair of scissors through my chest or a maybe a candlestick holder to the head.

Actually, I was upset that only 5,274 bobby pins were used on my head. That hairstylist should've thrown some enthusiasm into her work! I still had a few hair strands that were capable of moving when the wind blew. Appalling!
Are you taking suggestions? Because I think I've found inspiration for bridesmaid hairstyle perfection. It embodies all the poise and sophistication I think you're looking for on your big day.
