A New Home with a New Schedule

Well, we finally got word from Scott's employer at the end of January that they were ready for him to start work. They wanted him to start work in 7 days. So, I went into absolute move-mode.

I found a house. I conversed with the owner, gave him all of our information, got approved for the rental. We began packing everything. Scott and I made trips to Vancouver to move. I unpacked while he made more trips. Scott started his new job on February 2nd.

Connor joined us for Scott's usual custody week that week, and right after that, Connor's mother decided that the two weeks on and off custody change could start at that first week in February. Luckily before he came with us, I had a chance to unpack most of his bedroom.

During the work week, I took Connor to his new prekindergarten school part time. I continued to unpack and make our new house into a home. After I picked him up from school, we would go and try to see new things around our new town. We found a Kids Club, where Connor could climb over and under what they boast is one of the largest play structures in the Northwest. We visited JJ Jump, a large indoor facility with over 7 large blowup kids jumping structures. We went to the middle school across the street from our house and played on the playground. We went to Chuck E. Cheese a couple of times, where Connor had the time of his life.

And, whether it was the exposure to the new climate or the exposure to new kids and their illnesses, but Connor has a terrible cough now. The school called me yesterday and told me that his cough was keeping him from being able to rest during nap time, so I picked him up early and cared for him. Today, we kept him home to take him to the doctor.

The dogs have adjusted and just love the huge grassed backyard. They love the squirrels running through the trees and power lines more. Yesterday, I gave them their first flea treatment in this area. (There are no fleas in central Oregon. Just in the wet, warmer valley areas. Joy.) And now Rosco is whining when he is scratching his left ear. Which just happens to be the only ear that he can hear out of. So, as soon as the vet opens here, I will call for an appointment.

Last night over dinner, Scott looked at me and asked me if something was wrong. I told him nothing. But I am a little tired. Perhaps both physically and mentally.

I have given out many resumes to many companies: Companies that are hiring and companies that aren't advertising that they are hiring. I have been to an interview, but haven't heard back from that company. They told me two weeks, which would mean that I should have heard something by today. I guess the day isn't over yet, but I am skeptical.

I am very glad that I have been able to stay at home until now, I have had the time to get our house in order, while also being around the house when the cable was hooked up and the little house quirks were fixed by the owner. I have been able to be there for Connor starting his new school here. I have started working out after dropping Connor off for school.

I have fallen into the role of a housewife. And honestly, I'm not sure what to think of it. My mom did it for 24 years. My sister has done it for 7 years. I don't hate it, and I know how valuable I still am to the family. It's just very different than having a full-time job, balancing work life and family life to the brink of exhaustion.

But at the end of this weekend, Connor goes to his mom's for two weeks. So, what then? I will lose the busyness of taking care of Connor in the morning and the afternoon. What will I do? Work out in a movie star's workout routine? (You know, work out three times a day for two hours each time.) I'm not sure what I will be doing.

I hope I don't go crazy.
