"Only big boys get to go to the store and get a toy," I urged Connor to go up and get dressed so that we could go to the store. We promised that if we go to the store, he could get a toy. But only if he was well-manned.
"I CAN'T find my pants," he told me.
I knew that there were clothes all over the floor of his room. There was bound to be a couple pairs of pants somewhere in that room.
Realizing that he was just being lazy, I countered, "Well, then we aren't going to be going to the store. Only big boys that can dress themselves deserve a toy." I continued to do the dishes during this conversation.
Stubborn little boy, he just sat on the floor and continued to pretend that he was very interested in a piece of dirt he was staring at.
"MANdy, I can't put my PANTS on. I can't FIND them." He was starting to turn up the volume of whine at this point.
"Connor. Listen. If you go up and get dressed, we can go to the store. But YOU have to get dressed yourself."
He sat there for a few minutes. He took a deep sigh, and then exclaimed, "Fine. I'm going upstairs to put my freaking clothes on. Ugh!"
And even though he seemed disrespectful, I couldn't help chuckling to myself. Although he is only four-years old, he sometimes seems like he going on 10 years old.
